1890s Color Map GREAT BRITAIN and IRELAND ,1894 Antique Colour Map HISTORICAL MAP CHARTS
Great Britain is an island lying off the north-western coast of mainland Europe and to the east of Ireland, comprising the main territory of the United Kingdom. Great Britain is also used as a political term describing the combination of England, Scotland, and Wales, which together comprise the entire island and some outlying islands.
Ireland (53°30?N 7°38?W; Irish: Éire) is the third largest island in Europe. It lies in between the Atlantic Ocean and Irish Sea. Politically it is divided into the Republic of Ireland (officially named Ireland), a state which covers five-sixths of the island (south, east, west and north-west), and Northern Ireland, part of the United Kingdom, which covers the northeastern sixth of the island. The name 'Ireland' derives from the Anglo-Saxon mispronounciation of Ériu (Modern Irish:Éire) with the addition of the germanic 'land' suffix, and means 'land of Ériu'.
