Artist: Gustav Mützel (1839–1893) was a German artist, famous for his animal paintings, including the illustrations for the second edition of Alfred Edmund Brehm's Thierleben.
1890s Historical Ethnology Chromolithograph
Chromolithography was developed for making true multi-color prints. Previously prints were colored in by hand. Godefrey Engleman of France first commercialized it in the 1830s. Based on lithography which used flat stone slabs on which an image is drawn on the surface, but used separate stones for separate colors or impressions
