Ashuradeh is the sole island of the Caspian Sea, north of Iran. The island which is 800 hectare vast is located at the eastern end of Miankaleh peninsula, and is separated from Turkman Port with a strait. With regard to governmental divisions, it is considered part of Golestan province. Ashuradeh is a sandy island, with vegetation such as Cactus and blackberries and birds such as pheasants. The island is moreover one of the main areas for fishing sturgeon, the fish that provides one of Iran’s invaluable assets, its caviar.
