HISTORICAL RELIEF MAP CHART SHOWING TERRAIN, TOPOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONS

Berdychiv is a town in Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukraine, 44 km south of Zhytomyr. In 1430, Great Knight of Lithuania Vitautas granted the rights over the area to Kalinik, the procurator of Putivl' and Zvenigorod, and it is believed that his servant named Berdich founded a khutor (remote settlement) there, however the etymology of the name Berdychiv is not known. In 1483, Crimean Tatars destroyed the settlement. During the 1546 partition between Lithuania and Poland, the region was listed as a property of Lithuanian magnate Tyshkevich. According to the Treaty of Lublin (1569), Volhynia formed a province of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The fortified Carmelite monastery (built in 1627), captured and plundered by Bohdan Khmelnytsky in 1647, was reestablished in 1864. In 1846, the town accounted 1893 buildings, 69 of which were brick-made, 11 streets, 80 walkways and 4 squares. Honore de Balzac visited it in 1850 and noted that its unplanned development made it resemble the dance of polka as some buildings leaned left, while others right. Zhytomyr (Polish: Z.ytomierz) is the capital of the Zhytomyrs'ka oblast' in Ukraine. Geographical location 50°16? N 28°40? E.Zhytomyr is a major transportation hub. The city lies on a historic route linking Kiev with the west through Brest. Today it links Warsaw with Kiev, Minsk with Izmail, and several major cities of Ukraine.Zhytomyr was allegedly established in the 8th century by Zhytomyr, prince of slavic tribe of derevlians. However the first records of the town date from 1240 when it was sacked by the Mongol hordes of Batu Khan. In 1320 Zhytomyr was captured by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and received Magdeburg rights in 1444. After the Union of Lublin the city was incorporated into the Crown of the Polish Kingdom. In the Second Partition of Poland in 1793 it passed to imperial Russia. PLACES INCLUDE - LEVKOV , KODNA, TULIN
