PARTIAL DESCRIPTION FROM THE BIOGRAPHY: BRIGADIER-GENERAL J. G. DARTNELL C.M.G. HERE is, perhaps, no man better known in the Colony of Natal than Brigadier- General John George Dartnell, who for twenty-six years has been Commandant of the local Mounted Police, which he has raised to a high state of efficiency. Born at London, Ontario, in 1838, he received his first Commission as Ensign in the 86th Royal County Down Regiment en July 22 nd, 1855, and at once joined headquarters in India. His name was down for purchase, and when a Lieutenancy became vacant in November, 1856, he was gazetted to the higher rank. The Mutiny broke out in the following year, and young Dartnell took the field with the gallant "County Downs.
VERY GOOD CONDITION. Printed on heavier textured-glossy type paper. The colors are very bright and clean It does have text on reverse side (doesn't show through the heavier textured type paper) which is a BIOGRAPHY relating to the portrait. A great Genealogy collectible item.
