Halifax, founded in 1749, is a community and former
city in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Halifax was the shire
town of Halifax County and the provincial capital. York Redoubt is a
200-year old fortification situated on a high bluff overlooking the
entrance to Halifax Harbour. Established in 1793, it was a key element
in the defence of Halifax Harbour during the second half of the 19th
century.
