Jacques de Lajoue and Family,French Art Masterpiece,1883 Antique Engraving Historical Collectible Art Print

Jacques de Lajoue's work is representative of the period
during which decorators, ornamentalists and painters alike elaborated
the transition from the grand genre of the age of Louis XIV to the Rococo
style under the Regence and the reign of Louis XV. A son of the architect
by the same name, Jacques de Lajoue was admitted to the Academie Royale
in April 1721 as Peintre d'Architecture. His admission followed the
premature death of Jean-Antoine Watteau, from whose compositions and
different characters he found boundless inspiration. In 1735, Lajoue
had established his own repertoire in the field of architectural landscapes
or caprices. The large sweeping staircase, the monumental vase, the
sculpture of the river goddess and the fountains are quintessential
elements from the oeuvre of Jacques de Lajoue.
