Minusinsk ( 53°42?N 91°41?E) is a historic town in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, on the Yenisei River. The settlement of Min'yusinskoye was founded in 1739, at the confluence of the Minusa river with the Yenisei. Turkic Min Usa means "my brook" [1] (or "thousand rivers" [2]). It was renamed to Minusinskoye in 1810. In 1822, it received a town status and renamed to Minusinsk of the Yenisei guberniya. It was one of the regional centers of farming and transit trade in East Siberia. The town was also a place of political exile. Vladimir Lenin used to visit Minusinsk on numerous occasions when he was in exile in a village of Shushenskoye. The Martyanov Natural History Museum, founded in 1877, is located in Minusinsk.
