Description: Mount Shasta, volcanic peak, 14,162 feet, Northern California, in the Cascade Range. It was visited in about 1827 by Peter Skene Ogden, a British fur trader and explorer, Mt. Shasta has long been extinct except for hot sulfurous springs near the top. The resort town of Mt. Shasta is at the southwest foot of the mountain.
