THE PONTE ALTO,SIMPLON,IN SWITZERLAND ,Historical Swiss View,1834 Antique Engraving
Collectible Art Print
The waterfall of Ponte Alto (located at 3.5 km above Trento) was created in the 16th century, after the Prince-Bishop Bernardo Clesio decided to dam the Fersina torrent in an attempt to harness its destructive floods. The canyon is quite spectacular, even though the water flow is not always abundant. The first waterfall, dropping under the stone bridge for 88 metres, is breathtaking. Continuing along a trail in the red limestone canyon and then down a spiral stairs excavated in the stone (59 steps), visitors suddenly find themselves before a second waterfall.
