Exquisite 1840s Steel Engraving - Lovely Antique Portrait Print
A beautiful elaborate fleur de lis scrollwork decorative border surrounds the image, with a tiny vignette at the top of the portrait image. The vignette may represent the family coat of arms or crest. The celtic like ornamental perimeter scrollwork surrounding the portrait is a beautiful work of art, typical of a John Tallis type production. A great historical portrait print for a genealogy buff looking for family heritage or royalty type prints.
CONDITION: Very Good Condition. Blank on Reverse side and printed heavier paper. A beautiful print, lovely work of art.
Sir Walter Aston, Knight Of The Bath (1584-1639) was the First Lord Aston and was later made Baron Forfar. He was an English courtier who twice served as Ambassador to Spain. During his second term there he converted to Catholicism. The Astons then became one of England's leading Roman Catholic families making them members of a persecuted minority. The family seat (ancestral home) was Tixall Hall in Staffordshire. His daughter, Constance Aston Fowler, became a literary figure who is still a subject of academic study. His cousin, Lt-Col. Walter Aston, emigrated to America where he became a long-time member of the Virginia House of Burgesses.
