F. poule hen, and originally, a poultry cat, because it feeds on poultry. See Poultry.] (Zo["o]l.) (a) A small European carnivore of the Weasel family (Putorius f[oe]tidus). MELES TAXUS - The American badger is very similar in its general form to the European badger Meles meles, however the American species appears broader in the body and closer to the ground than its European counterpart. Its legs are a little shorter than those of Meles, but they are just as powerful and Taxidea is an accomplished digger LUTRA VULGARIS -The aquatic (sometimes marine) carnivorous mammals known as otters form part of the large and diverse family Mustelidae, which also includes weasels, polecats, badgers, and others.
